We donate and give back a proportion of our sale proceeds to support local communities / causes in Bali. We are currently donating 1% of sales to help feed a Balinese family in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We want to live in a world where all fashion is sustainable. Fashion is one of the major polluting industries in the world. We think it’s really important to start making steps towards turning things around and we want to do our bit to make the world a better place.

As an eco-conscious brand we believe in sustainable living and we infuse these ethics into the design and manufacture of our clothes. From the fabrics we use to the dyes we pick, to our choice of textile print methods. It’s an ongoing process, which we continue to improve on as we learn more about sustainable ways of doing things.

Through our actions, we want to encourage and spark positive change. We hope to increase awareness so that consumers can make more conscious choices which will help to reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on mother earth.

We only use fabrics made from plant-based fibers which are biodegradable and compostable and can fully revert back to nature. 

We produce in small batches to minimise surplus stock and wastage and only hold a limited number of each size, style and colour at any one time. 

Our designs use minimal trims and embellishments and we source locally as much as possible so as to reduce our carbon footprint. 

In doing so, we aim to support local artisans and communities and encourage the growth of the eco-fashion industry.

Fabrics & Fibers

Our Kiku Flower collection is made using TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with a satin weave. The fabric drapes naturally, absorbs and releases moisture efficiently, and is breathable and super soft and gentle on the skin. 

TENCEL™ Lyocell is a certified biobased fiber derived from renewable wood sources. The Lyocell fibers are produced from wood pulp in an environmentally responsible closed-loop production process which efficiently recycles more than 99% of the process water and low-toxicity solvent, thus minimising the environmental impact of production. Certified as compostable and biodegradable, these fibers are sourced from Lenzing AG who derive their wood from sustainable sources.

Our round metal KAFTAN tags are handcrafted by local artisans in Bali and are made of 100% white bronze sourced locally in Indonesia.

Our tassels are made from 100% cotton.

Packaging and brand labels

We do our best to minimise the use of unnecessary packaging and do not use plastic. That means your clothing will arrive very simply in a cotton drawstring bag which can be re-used in a number of ways. One of my favourites is for storing laundry when travelling :) 

For mailing purposes, we use comPOST™ 100% biodegradable and home compostable courier satchels sourced from The Better Packaging Co, so you can pop it in your home compost or green waste bin or technically, bury it in your back garden! And last but not least, these bags are bio-based, which means they are partly made from plants such as corn starch and are biodegradable leaving no toxic residues or micro-plastics.

Our sewn-in clothing and wash labels are made from 100% cotton.

Our hang tags use natural string and are digitally printed on uncoated paper.


We work with ethical suppliers who treat their workers and artisans fairly and we aim to minimise waste, water, and energy usage where possible.

Textile supplier

We source our fabric from a local textile supplier who produces the fabric in West Java, Indonesia. Sourcing locally has a lower carbon footprint, provides employment to the local community and supports the local textile making industry.

Digital textile printing + Inks & dyes

We use digital printing technology to transfer our designs onto fabric using eco-friendly water-based reactive inks that have been certified by the Oeko-Tex Standard 100. This means that the inks are low impact and do not contain harmful chemicals or substances. So it’s kinder on both the environment and your skin. 

Digital printing uses less water than most traditional textile printing methods and therefore reduces the environmental impact of water pollution. It also allows us to layout our print design efficiently onto garment pieces so that we can print more precisely the amount of fabric we need, therefore reducing fabric usage and waste.

We work with a factory based in West Java, Indonesia who is committed to sustainable production and minimising its environmental footprint. It prints only on natural fibres using certified eco-friendly inks and runs a ‘Giving Back Program’ whereby every purchase contributes towards the planting of trees along the Citarum River of Bandung. 

The Citarum River is the longest and largest river in West Java, Indonesia and is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. The river plays an important role in the life of people in West Java, as it supports many things including local agriculture, fishery and water supply. A 7-year government-run program is currently underway to clean up the river and restore its ecological balance.

Garment Production

We work with a garment factory in Bali, Indonesia where workers are paid at least the average wage, are treated fairly and respectfully and are working in safe conditions.

The garments are sewn by men and women working from their own homes  which helps to support the local cottage industry.


We work with a jewellery design studio in Bali, Indonesia who have a team of local artisans that specialise in traditional wax carving and jewellery making. One of their artisans handcrafted the KAFTAN logo in wax for us which was then used  to cast the round white bronze KAFTAN tags.


Shipping Policy

We ship to most countries worldwide and aim to dispatch your order within 48 hours. Any orders placed on a Friday, over the weekend or on a public holiday will not be processed until the next business day.

Free Standard Shipping Worldwide

Orders are shipped using e-packet or EMS, a post office to post office international priority mail service with tracking and insurance. Delivery times vary depending on country but is usually within 6-10 business days.

Your order will be delivered by the local postal service in your country at the stated delivery address. Please note a signature is required upon delivery.

To ensure that your order gets to you safely and successfully please make sure you fill out your shipping details clearly and correctly. Please note we can not deliver to PO Box addresses.

We suggest using an address where someone is present during business hours to sign for the package. If no one is available to receive the delivery then a “delivery attempt notice” will usually be left by your local postal service and the package will be left at your local post office for your own collection.

KAFTAN will not be held responsible for packages that are lost in transit or experience failed delivery attempts for any reason.

Track Your Status

As soon as we have shipped your order you will receive an email stating the tracking number. You can check the status of your order via https://www.posindonesia.co.id/en/tracking.

Currency, Taxes and Duty

Customers are responsible for any local taxes and duties applicable in their country. Import duties and taxes are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are your responsibility and will be collected from you by the carrier. Duties /Taxes on goods vary widely depending on the product value and the country you are having your order delivered to.

Return Policy

We hope that you love your order from KAFTAN but if for any reason you would like to return an item then we are happy to do so as long as you let us know within 7 days of receiving your order.

You must notify us by email at customer@kaftan.co within 7 days of the shipment receipt date. Please provide your name, order number, copy of invoice, picture of garment and reason for return and whether you are seeking a refund or exchange. Our Customer Care team will reply within 48 hours with information to help you make the return.

Please note our Customer Care team is available to assist you should you have any questions on style, size or fit. To help you pick the right size we have included garment measurements for each style and a size guide. We recommend that customers refer to these when making an order to avoid unnecessary returns.

Return conditions:

  • All returns must be notified, accepted and approved by KAFTAN via email (notification by email must be within 7 days of delivery)
  • Items must be sent back within 30 days of delivery
  • All items must be returned in their original condition, without having been worn, washed or altered, and with all original packaging, labels and tags still attached
  • Return shipments must be made using a traceable delivery service with tracking number
  • We are not liable for items lost in transit
  • Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the original cost of shipping will be deducted from your refund
  • You will be responsible for paying for shipping costs and duties (both directions) when returning your item (except on faulty items)
  • Faulty items can be returned and exchanged for the same item
  • Sale or discounted items are not eligible for return
  • It is only possible to exchange the same item for a different size; we can not exchange items for a different colour or a different item altogether
  • In the event of an exchange you will be responsible for paying for the item to be shipped back to you

Refunding/Exchanging the purchase:

Once the return has been checked by our Customer Care team, you will receive an email confirming receipt of the return and notifying you of the approval or rejection of your refund/exchange. If approved, we will refund/exchange you as quickly as possible.

Please note:

  • The refund will be credited to your credit card or original method of payment
  • The time it takes to receive your refund depends on your credit card provider or the payment method
  • If your purchase was made with a promotional voucher/discount code, you will receive a refund only for the amount paid, that is, the amount charged after the voucher was applied. Furthermore, the promotional voucher/discount code will no longer be valid
  • If the purchase was made with a promotional voucher/discount code and is returned partially, you will receive a refund proportionately reduced by the value of the voucher
  • Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged item to reach you, may vary.
